“Come on Baby, Light My Fire”: Kurt Weill’s Posthumous Lesson for The Doors

Event Type: Other
Age Group(s): Adults
Date: 11/18/2013
Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Time: 7:00 PM
Description:
Anderson University music professor Dr. Jonathan Brooks will discuss the influence of Kurt Weill’s “Alabama Song” on the members and music of The Doors, specifically in relation to their hit “Light My Fire.” Dr. Brooks’ talk will explain how a seemingly obscure piece from a 1929 opera profoundly impacted the composition of rock songs decades later and, more broadly, how the influence of past works can be seen in classic rock. Join us to gain new insights on old classics, and experience these timeless songs on a deeper level.
